"If we understood ourselves better we would damage ourselves less."- James Baldwin from The Creative Process
Born in Queens, New York, Virginia Vivona had always had a strong desire to become a teacher. It should come as no surprise that she even taught her siblings. She received her college education at the City University of New York and, University of Staten Island. During her education she acquired a bachelors degree in English and a masters degree in secondary education and English. Virginia Vivona taught in Staten Island for six years before joining the staff at Lemon Bay High School, where she currently teaches Journalism 1-4 and A.P. Language and Composition. "After teaching teenagers for thirty-seven years you'd have to like it!" As a teacher it seems fitting that her one wish would be that every student would understand the value of a good education.
As an English teacher, it seems appropriate for her to have a love of reading. It seems even more becoming for her favorite books to be great American classics such as The Great Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye, and Breakfast of Champions. Each of these books is worthy enough to be read at home, alongside her black cat named Shadow.
While her taste in literature is classic, some of her favorite musicians may come as a surprise. Musicians such as Aerosmith, AC/DC, Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and to spice things up, Jimmy Buffett are just a few bands that get her toes tapping. One would expect such a novel enthusiast to choose a hero or heroine from some classic tale; however, her hero is her father. To her, it seemed as if he was able to do anything.
Lemon Bay High School should consider itself lucky to have such a qualified and influential teacher amongst its staff.
