Lemon Bay welcomes a new addition to the teaching staff with Senora Lenore Sutton, the new Spanish teacher.

Growing up in the tight knit community of Spanish Harlem in New York created a unique childhood for Sutton. The community members kept their ties with the islands they came from and generally watched out for each other. She always felt safe because "no one in my neighborhood was a stranger." It is easy to see how this could inspire someone to succeed in life.

Sutton wasn't always set on teaching. It took an influential college professor to make her realize what her true calling was. Sutton attended Temple University in Pennsylvania and changed her major to Spanish literature freshman year after being told to "do what you love" by a professor. After seven years of teaching at Cardinal Mooney High School, Sutton decided it was time for a change and started her new position at Lemon Bay.

Many special moments have made Sutton proud to be a teacher. "I have proud moments all the time," Sutton said. "But my favorites usually come when students really start to develop an interest in other cultures and languages." The love of foreign cultures has brought Sutton around the world, many times with her students right there with her.

From Costa Rica to the Mediterranean Sutton has seen more in a few years than most people get to experience in their whole lives. Sutton has made a habit of traveling every few years. So far she has been to Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, The Dominican Republic, and all over Europe. Next year she is going on a trip with her former students from Sarasota and any Lemon Bay students who wish to go. They plan to visit France, Germany and Italy. Sutton likes traveling with students because "It gives them a chance to get a broader experience."

Lemon Bay is truly lucky to acquire a new Spanish teacher with so much knowledge of the Spanish culture and language.
