Bonnie Powell
English

Self proclaimed as active, thoughtful, and serious, Bonnie Powell is all about words. She has been teaching for 15 years and has been in the state of Florida for nine of them. Powell received her education at Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana for her bachelors degree in English. She then attended Tulane for an E.S.O.L endorsement.

Before Lemon Bay she taught at Lithfield High School in Gadsen, Alabama. She also taught at Traip as an E.S.O.L Aide in Kiltery, Maine and in New Orleans Job Corps Center. She now teaches 11th and 12th grade English here at Lemon Bay High. Powell also teaches mixed grade and ability levels in E.S.O.L. The reason she wanted to be an English teacher was, "I wanted to be able to share my love of literature and appreciation for writing." This love for literature has made her who she is today, and she is very appreciated here at our school. The thing that interested her the most about her subject is, " the fact that writing reveals individual values, and the skill involved in composing writing, also the power words have on us."

Aside from teaching English, she also sponsors a new club for creative writing called, Carpe Diem. This is also her first year co-sponsoring the junior class. In her spare time she enjoys all types of sports, one in particular being volleyball. Powell's specific goals this year are, "more parent contact and increased student responsibility for their education and for grades."

One thing that she would like to say to all the students is, "Everyone is capable, and you've got a partner who is rooting for you."
