Michael Messina had no intentions of being a teacher when he was growing up in New York. He was in love with the game of football and planned to make a career out of it. He moved to Florida and attended the University of Central Florida. He was a star linebacker for the "Knights" football team. In addition to playing football, Messina became intrigued with history and studied it relentlessly while attending UCF.

"I wanted to find a career that could incorporate both my love of history and football, and this was the perfect opportunity."

Messina began his career at Desoto High School where he taught and coached football for seven years. He then transferred to Lemon Bay High School and has been teaching here for 12 years. He is an instructor in the Student Support and Assistance Program (SSAP) and has coached the Varsity football team for all 12 years he has been here. His favorite thing about teaching in Florida is the nice weather all year round that he couldn't experience in his home state of New York. He hopes he is lucky enough to be a called a "Manta Ray" for the rest of his career.

When he isn't in the classroom or on the football field, Messina enjoys spending time with his family. However, when he isn't having fun with his wife and children, Messina spends a majority of his free time persistently preparing for the next football game.

"I want to continue with the football team for as long as I can, lead Lemon Bay to a state championship, and hopefully one day become a school administrator."

Only someone as diligent and hard working as Messina could accomplish the career goals he has set for himself.
