Marla Kae Lanham has been teaching for three years. Before coming to Florida, she taught at Lawrence Township in Indiana. Today, she is a certified personal fitness teacher at Lemon Bay. Not only is she fanatical about sports, but she is also interested in keeping bodies happy and healthy. "I like to motivate others to be successful and efficient citizens," Lanham said.

While teaching her students, Lanham strives to include reading and writing in her instruction to help target FCAT. As a result, she administers each lecture by using visual, auditory, and kinesthetic teaching methods. "Making my lessons relevant to life is the key in my teaching."

This year, Lanham wishes to integrate more technology into her class because the times are changing, requiring technological updates. "I am also trying to improve feedback on the work that's handed in." Although these things need to be updated, Lanham's competence as a teacher will always be growing. In one semester, she had 25 out of 30 students improve their body composition.

When Lanham isn't using her passion for sports to teach, she applies that same enthusiasm into athletic activities outside of school. "I am big on beach volleyball. I'm also currently training for the Disney Mini Marathon." While sports plays a major role in her life, her two young daughters are also important to her.

Lanham begins this year refreshed, motivated, and encouraged.
