English

I was born and raised in Alexandria, Kentucky, a small farming community about 20 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio. Although I grew up in a country setting the large metropolis nearby allowed me to enjoy many cultural and big city adventures. Cincinnati has the Reds Baseball Team and the Bengals Football Team. Some other attractions include Cincinnati Art Museum, Eden Park, Music Hall, Playhouse in the Park, and many other exciting offerings. Similarly, living on a farm I learned to garden; cook, can my own food, sew, and raise horses and cows. Having experienced all these things has shaped the diverse person that I am.

While in Kentucky I attended Northern Kentucky University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Master’s Degree in English. I also have my National Board Certification in English Education. For a brief period I attended Murray State University in Paducah, Kentucky and worked with a National Geographic study.

One reason I moved to Englewood in 2000 was to be close to the beach. Despite the fact that Englewood is not as culturally varied as where I grew up, I enjoy the quiet laidback lifestyle offered here. I would like to say I chose Lemon Bay, however Lemon Bay chose me after I applied to several schools. Although I don’t have any relatives at Lemon Bay I certainly feel like I have a “family” here.

My influence for teaching derives from my love of reading and helping my son in his school when he was younger. Later at the age of 35 I decided to attend college to become a teacher. I began teaching at Turkey Foot Middle School at age 40. While I have always taught English at various levels, one of my great loves is art. I think teaching art would be fun and I do many art projects at home.

In my spare time I like to read. One of my favorite writers is Randy Wayne White, a Florida author. Besides reading, I paint, create stained glass windows, go boating, and enjoy working out at the Englewood, YMCA.
