Rick Ellis
NJROTC

Lemon Bay's NJROTC program is led, in part, by Commander Rick Ellis - a former member of the U.S. Navy who has traveled the world and lived in many places.

He was born and raised in Lancaster, Ohio where he grew up interested in flying for the military. However, he later traveled to the University of the State of New York, obtaining his bachelor's degree in social studies, then to Florida Gulf Coast University, where he earned his masters degree in classroom technology.

Some of Ellis' travels are thanks to the navy, which allowed him to see many new, far off and unique locations. He has lived in five states - Maine, Louisiana, California, Hawaii and Florida, finally settling in Englewood.

Ellis is now head of Lemon Bay's NJROTC. He leads the class and club along with Commander John Farris and several student commanding officers. Ellis and the other leaders command 67 ROTC students in all, with new recruits coming in every year.

He has helped lead the NJROTC to numerous honors and awards. The program takes part in three competitions a year at the State Field meets.

Having lived all over the country he enjoys sharing stories of his numerous travels, which keeps his career enjoyable. His enjoyment at home includes his favorite hobby, golf.

Commander Rick Ellis has lived a life of travel and adventure, now sharing the knowledge he has with students. He enjoys teaching and wouldn't trade it for any other career.
