Karen Jo Hoover DeProspero is a teacher who truly loves to teach. DeProspero moved to Englewood from Harvey, Illinois to retire. She decided that it was too early to retire and began teaching once again. DeProspero has been at Lemon Bay for about ten years, and she has taught a variety of subjects including Spanish and English.
DeProspero earned her bachelors degree at Ball State University in Indiana and has done further course work at California State University, Cedar Valley College in Texas, and Towson State University in Maryland.
"I didn't always teach Spanish," she recalls. "I used to teach English." DeProspero claims that she began teaching Spanish because, "I was a junior in college, and I didn't have a minor. So one day I was walking down the hall, and I saw a huge sign that said go on a trip to Mexico. I went, and I had a wonderful time. I decided to become a Spanish teacher."
Although DeProspero doesn't coach any sports or sponsor any clubs, she has many hobbies that she enjoys doing in her free time including traveling. She has traveled to many different places including Mexico, Canada, and just about every state in the United States. "I've moved around so much," she said. She also enjoys boating.
DeProspero is a lively woman who loves her job and can't seem to stay out of the classroom.
